The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is about to welcome another fan-favorite star. Sadie Sink, best known for her role as Max in Netflix’s Stranger Things, is set to join Spider-Man 4 alongside Tom Holland. With production expected to begin later this year, Sink’s addition marks the first major new casting for the highly anticipated sequel.
Who Is Sadie Sink Playing?
While Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have not officially commented on Sink’s role, speculation is already running wild. One of the strongest theories suggests that she could portray Jean Grey, the iconic X-Men character previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. With the MCU preparing to introduce mutants, this casting would be a significant step toward integrating the X-Men into the broader Marvel universe.
However, another possibility is that Sink could be playing a classic Spider-Man character—perhaps a fresh take on Mary Jane Watson or another well-known redheaded figure from the comics. Regardless of the role, reports suggest that her character will play a substantial part in the film’s story.
The Future of Spider-Man in the MCU
The last installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), left Peter Parker in a completely new chapter of his life. After choosing to erase his identity from the world to fix the chaos of the multiverse, Parker now exists in anonymity. This narrative shift means that Holland’s previous co-stars, including Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned, may have smaller roles—or possibly not appear at all. This allows room for new characters like Sink’s to take center stage.
Destin Daniel Cretton, known for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is set to direct Spider-Man 4. He takes over from Jon Watts, who helmed the first three films of the MCU’s Spider-Man series. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

Sink’s Rising Career and Upcoming Projects
For Sadie Sink, this role marks yet another major career milestone. Having just wrapped up production on the final season of Stranger Things, Sink is making significant moves in Hollywood. She recently starred in the SXSW-premiered musical film O’Dessa, which is set to release on Hulu soon. Additionally, she will make her Broadway debut in John Proctor Is the Villain, opening on April 4.
At just 22 years old, Sink’s career trajectory continues to skyrocket, and joining the MCU is a massive step that will further cement her as a rising star in the industry.
