Pirates of the Caribbean 6 : Jerry Bruckheimer, the powerhouse producer behind the swashbuckling “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, has dropped some tantalizing news about the beloved franchise’s future. In a conversation that also touched on the “Top Gun” sequel, Bruckheimer revealed to ComicBook.com that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga is poised for a grand return, this time in the form of a reboot. While discussing the complexities of scheduling around star actors, Bruckheimer noted the logistical ease of rebooting “Pirates” compared to waiting on the availability of iconic actors for “Top Gun.”
The reboot news follows a period of speculation and anticipation about the direction of the “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” movie. Notably, Johnny Depp, who has become synonymous with the franchise’s Captain Jack Sparrow, was previously confirmed by Bruckheimer in 2022 as not being involved in this next chapter. This announcement left fans wondering about the future of their favorite pirate saga.
Further stirring the pot was the buzz around a potential female-led installment starring Margot Robbie, with Disney exploring scripts both with and without Robbie’s involvement. Amidst this uncertainty, Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, made it clear last year that rejuvenating the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series remains a top priority for Disney, aligning with the company’s broader strategy of transforming animated classics into live-action blockbusters. According to Bailey, the team has crafted an “exciting story” that pays homage to the original films while charting new territory.
Initially, “Deadpool” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were tapped to pen the script for the sixth film but left the project in 2019. Taking up the mantle were Craig Mazin, known for “The Last of Us,” and Ted Elliot, a returning writer from the franchise. Mazin shared with the LA Times that their vision for the movie was considered “too weird,” yet it seemingly won over Disney, leading to a “fantastic script.” Despite a halt in progress due to the writers’ strike, anticipation for what’s next has only grown since work resumed in late September.
In sum, the seas are stirring once more for “Pirates of the Caribbean,” with Bruckheimer at the helm of a reboot that aims to blend the cherished elements of past films with fresh narratives. As fans eagerly await more details, it’s clear that Disney is committed to ensuring this beloved pirate saga sails smoothly into its new era.
