The much-anticipated Peaky Blinders Movie, which serves as a continuation of the hit series, has officially wrapped filming. While the film is set to release on Netflix, its creator, Steven Knight, has hinted at a potential theatrical release before it lands on the streaming platform.
Filming Wrapped, And The Movie Is “Mind-Blowingly Good”
Steven Knight, the mastermind behind Peaky Blinders, recently confirmed in an interview that production concluded on December 13. He expressed immense excitement about the film, calling it “mind-blowingly good.” Knight also revealed that early footage from the movie has exceeded expectations, ensuring fans will not be disappointed.
The film stars Cillian Murphy, reprising his iconic role as Tommy Shelby. Other notable cast members include Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, and Stephen Graham. Knight emphasized the strength of the ensemble, stating, “We’ve got the best British actors all in one place.”
Theatrical Release Before Netflix?
While the film is set to premiere on Netflix, Knight has expressed his strong desire for it to be screened in theaters first. Speaking about the importance of a communal viewing experience, he stated, “I really want the Peaky fans who have been a big part of this to be watching it all together in one building. The communication has all been virtual, but I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen.”
However, no official confirmation has been made by Netflix or the film’s production team regarding a theatrical release.
The Film Continues The Peaky Blinders Saga
Directed by Tom Harper, who previously helmed several episodes of the series, the film is described as “an epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of Birmingham in the 1900s.”
The movie is written by Steven Knight, who also serves as a co-producer alongside Cillian Murphy, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley. The executive producers include Tom Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The film is also being developed in association with BBC Film.

The End Of Peaky Blinders? Not Quite
Though the upcoming movie serves as a major chapter in the Peaky Blinders storyline, Knight has made it clear that this is not the end of the franchise. In an interview, he described the film as “a fitting end to the first chapter” but reassured fans that there could be more stories ahead.
“As long as there’s an appetite for it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?” Knight stated, hinting at future expansions in the Peaky Blinders universe. When pressed further, he remained vague but teased, “I’m not allowed to announce it, but I’m just saying that the world of ‘Peaky’ will continue.”
Knight’s Other Upcoming Project
Beyond Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight is also busy with another major project. His new drama series, A Thousand Blows, is set to premiere this Friday on Disney+ in the U.K. and on Hulu in the U.S.
With the Peaky Blinders film generating immense anticipation, fans can only hope for an official announcement regarding a theatrical release soon. Until then, the return of Tommy Shelby and his gang remains one of the most awaited events in the world of cinema.
