After a three-year wait filled with anticipation and uncertainty, Peacemaker Season 2 finally has an official release date. James Gunn, the creator of the series and one of the key architects behind the new DC Universe, has confirmed that the second season of the hit series will premiere on August 21, 2025, exclusively on Max.
A Long-Awaited Return After a DCU Shake-Up
Season 1 of Peacemaker, which debuted in 2022, received widespread acclaim for its sharp writing, unexpected emotional depth, and John Cena’s standout performance as the chaotic anti-hero, Christopher Smith. However, the show’s continuation was delayed due to the major leadership transition at DC Studios. With James Gunn and Peter Safran stepping in to spearhead a brand-new DCU, fans were left in limbo about the show’s future.
Now, with Gunn firmly in the driver’s seat, Peacemaker Season 2 has emerged as one of the most anticipated entries in the evolving DCU slate.

Teaser Footage Hints at More Chaos (and Heart)
Alongside the release date announcement, Gunn also shared a brief teaser featuring a few glimpses from the new season. The quick-cut footage includes Cena’s Peacemaker giving a thumbs up, running in chaos, and smashing through a window—all while being as wild and unpredictable as ever.
Fans also got a peek at Danielle Brooks’ Leota Adebayo, who delivers a standout line: “You’re a superhero now.” It’s a line that hints at Christopher Smith’s continued journey from destructive mercenary to something (slightly) more noble—while still being completely unfiltered and off-the-rails.
A New Dance Number is Coming
If you loved the iconic Season 1 intro dance sequence, you’re in for a treat. Danielle Brooks confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will feature a brand-new dance number. She shared that the choreography this time around was “intense” and required considerable rehearsal time, teasing fans with promises that the opening scene is going to be “a knock out.”
With James Gunn’s signature blend of action, absurdity, and unexpected emotional moments, this dance sequence is sure to get fans talking all over again.

Tying into the New DCU Timeline
What makes Peacemaker Season 2 even more exciting is its place in the timeline of the newly rebooted DCU. It will arrive just over a month after the release of Gunn’s Superman film, set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. While the animated Creature Commandos series (released in 2024) technically kicked off the DCU, Peacemaker will serve as the first live-action television project under the new continuity.
Interestingly, while Superman introduces a brand-new cast and fresh tone for the DCU, Peacemaker continues a familiar story with its returning ensemble and narrative threads from Season 1. This contrast between the “new” and the “returning” gives fans a dynamic taste of what the DCU is capable of.
What to Expect from Season 2
The last time we saw Christopher Smith, he was on his porch with Eagly and the ghost of his disapproving father—symbolizing both a personal victory and the lingering weight of his past. Season 2 promises to pick up from this emotionally charged moment, exploring how Smith navigates the duality of his destructive tendencies and his desire for redemption.
According to both Gunn and Brooks, this season will carry even more heart, character depth, and wild antics. It’s safe to say: the wait will be worth it.
