Veteran actor John Goodman has suffered a hip injury while filming an upcoming film starring Tom Cruise. The incident took place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, where production on the untitled film, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, had been underway since late last year.

Injury and Immediate Medical Attention

According to reports, the 72-year-old actor slipped while blocking a scene for the film. He was immediately given medical attention and taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the injury was described as “minor” despite requiring professional care. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that Goodman’s accident led to a temporary delay in filming, but production is set to resume next week following his full recovery.

Temporary Production Halt and Expected Return

Due to Goodman’s injury, production was briefly paused for two days. However, the studio has assured that the delay was minimal and will not significantly impact the film’s schedule. Sources close to the production have stated that Goodman is expected to return to set on Monday, March 10.

Details About the Film

While plot details for the untitled film remain under wraps, it marks Iñárritu’s first English-language project since his Oscar-winning 2015 film The Revenant. The script was co-written in 2023 by Iñárritu along with Birdman writers Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris, as well as Sabina Berman.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Tom Cruise, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophie Wilde. Cruise, who recently signed a development deal with Warner Bros. Discovery in January 2024, plays a powerful figure described by IMDb as “the most powerful man in the world,” embarking on a mission to prove himself as humanity’s savior after causing a major disaster.

Goodman’s Ongoing Projects

In addition to this film, Goodman remains active with several other projects. He is set to return for the fourth season of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, which premieres today. He is also involved in upcoming projects such as an animated Smurfs movie and Chili Finger, a dark comedy featuring Bryan Cranston and Sean Astin.

Expected Release Date

While Warner Bros. has yet to confirm an official release date, reports indicate that the film is tentatively scheduled for October 2026. With Goodman recovering and returning to set soon, production is expected to proceed without further interruptions.

This incident highlights the challenges and risks actors face while filming, but thankfully, Goodman’s injury appears to be minor, and he is set to make a swift return to the set.
