Director James Gunn has unveiled the initial glimpse of David Corenswet’s Superman, offering a peek at the new Man of Steel’s costume. The image, posted on Gunn’s official Threads account, hints at a return to tradition with the inclusion of the iconic red trunks, a notable feature absent in the DC Extended Universe version.
Accompanied by the caption, “Get ready. Superman. 7.11.25,” the photo was reportedly taken on set by photographer Jess Miglio and was entirely shot in-camera. This reveal follows Gunn’s previous hint on Threads that fans would soon see the new suit, finally delivering on that promise.
David Corenswet’s Superman costume in the new DC Universe blends modern stylization with classic elements, featuring the iconic red boots and trunks. The suit retains recognizable features like the signature hair curl and a gold belt while incorporating nods to the New 52 comic book era. In the recently released image, subtle hints suggest the potential villain Superman may face, as well as the appearance of Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, both looming over the Metropolis skyline.
Production on the film, previously known as “Superman: Legacy,” kicked off on the superhero’s canonical birthday, February 29. Gunn envisions Superman as the official beginning of the new DC Universe (DCU), even though the animated series Creature Commandos will be released beforehand.
The plot remains largely under wraps, but Gunn has confirmed that the film will not revisit Superman’s origin story. Instead, it will follow Clark Kent as he reconciles his dual identities and continues to fight for justice while working as a journalist at the Daily Planet. Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor has been confirmed, positioning him as the primary antagonist while leaving room for additional foes in this highly anticipated reboot.
New ‘Superman’ Movie Cast
The upcoming Superman film boasts a star-studded cast led by David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, with Rachel Brosnahan taking on the role of Lois Lane, the intrepid journalist at the Daily Planet. Skyler Gisondo will portray Jimmy Olsen, while Sara Sampaio steps in as Eve Teschmacher.
Notable names are joining the superhero ranks as well. Nathan Fillion will don the ring as Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced will wield the mace as Hawkgirl. Edi Gathegi is set to play the brilliant Mister Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan will transform into Metamorpho.
María Gabriela de Faría joins as The Engineer, with Terence Rosemore as Otis and Wendell Pierce playing Perry White. Additionally, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell have been cast as Superman’s adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent.
In a swirl of speculation, Sean Gunn and Milly Alcock are also rumored to be part of the film, potentially portraying Maxwell Lord and Supergirl, respectively.
