These books, by George R R Martin are humongous, and written with excruciating detail and involving thousands of characters. Thus the series is also very engaging, with fleshed out characters and a stunning plot.
Boys Over Flowers
This is a South Korean drama based on the manga by Yoko Kamio, and follows a middle class girl who gets entangled with a group of wealthy boys in her high school. Full of teen drama, love, lies and money, this is a tv show for brainless entertainment. It is also available in Hindi now, which just takes the entertainment factor to a whole new level.
House of Cards
Quite a popular TV show, this is the story of Francis Urquhart. It follows his political journey – he knows all dirty secrets of the US politics and is willing to betray them to become the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, political correspondent Mattie Storin comes across a scandal that she must expose in order to preserve her integrity. A brilliant novel by Michael Hobbs, this is one of the few books whose small screen adaptations have lived up to the original.
The Last Kingdom
Drawing from the Saxton Stories by Bernard Cornwell, this is a British historical fiction show following the relations of the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons. Uhtred of Bebbanburg is our protagonist, who goes through a number of interesting events in the series.
The Umbrella Academy
The comic books by Gerard Way have made their way into a Netflix show of the same name. This show follows a group of adoptive siblings who are also superheroes, as they try to solve the mystery of their father’s murder. Their dysfunctional family must brave several consequences while doing so, one of them being the threat of an imminent apocalypse. This dark fantasy is definitely dark academia, and makes for a very interesting show.
Shadowhunters
This is based on Cassandra Claire’s famous series of the same name, which follows a fantasy world where vampire, werewolves, demons and other creatures exist. The job of the Shadowhunters, who are endowed with magic is to rid the world of such demonic creatures The series borrows its leads, Clary Fray and Jace from the novels, crafting a story that will transport you to another world.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
This is the adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective fiction that came way before our Cumberbatch and Freeman’s Sherlock. This follows the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his aide Dr John Watson as they solve several cases. Sherlock’s wit is sharp and his eye for detail surpasses description. This series captures exactly that about Sherock’s personality, and the appeal of vintage aesthetic enhances the experience even more.
Money Heist
This Spanish show is based on robbery, where unusual group of people carry out the most perfect robbery in Spanish history. It’s first season was released on 2nd May 2017. The story of the show will last till 5th season which will be releasing in 2 parts in 2021.
