Fans of the iconic parody franchise can officially get excited. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are reuniting with the Wayans brothers for Scary Movie 6, marking the long-awaited return of the beloved horror-comedy series. The film has been confirmed for a June 12, 2026 theatrical release.

Cindy and Brenda Are Back

Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who became fan favorites as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks, are stepping back into their roles after more than a decade away from the franchise. The duo starred together in the first four Scary Movie films between 2000 and 2006 but were absent from Scary Movie 5 in 2013.

In a joint statement, the actresses shared their excitement:
“We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”

For fans, the return of both actresses delivers a nostalgic reunion that many had hoped for since the series’ peak.

The Wayans Brothers Reunite After 18 Years

The biggest surprise is the return of the Wayans brothers. Keenen Ivory Wayans, who directed the first two films, will rejoin Shawn and Marlon Wayans, who co-wrote and starred in the early installments. This marks their first involvement in the franchise since Scary Movie 2 in 2001.

In a statement, the Wayans brothers expressed their enthusiasm:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again.”

The upcoming movie is being described as a fresh restart for the franchise, with the Wayans at the creative helm once again after Miramax’s unsuccessful attempt to reboot the series without them.

How Scary Movie 6 Came Together

Talk of a sixth film first surfaced in April 2024, but it wasn’t until October that the Wayans brothers were officially confirmed. Around the same time, both Faris and Hall had voiced interest in returning.

Faris even admitted her main motivation was to reunite with Hall, joking, “I would love to reprise [my role]. I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!”

Meanwhile, Hall had said in late 2024 that she was “thrilled” at the possibility of the cast coming back together. Their confirmed return shows the team’s desire to recapture the spirit that made the first films so successful.

What the New Film Might Spoof

Although the plot remains under wraps, hints about the parody focus have surfaced. Actor Dave Sheridan, who played Ghostface in the original film, revealed in early 2025 that the story could lampoon the latest entries in the Scream franchise, specifically Scream 5 and Scream 6.

That direction would bring the parody full circle, since the very first Scary Movie famously spoofed Scream back in 2000. If true, audiences might see Cindy and Brenda navigating a new meta-horror world while possibly mentoring a younger cast — much like how the newer Scream films blended legacy characters with fresh faces.

Interestingly, actress Melissa Barrera, who starred in the recent Scream films, has expressed interest in joining the parody, making her a possible addition to the cast.

A Franchise With Box Office Power

The Scary Movie franchise has always been a major box office draw. The first film, released on July 7, 2000, earned $157 million domestically against a $19 million budget and grossed $278 million worldwide. Collectively, the five films have generated over $897 million globally.

The series became a cultural staple by parodying hit horror movies such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Blair Witch Project, The Sixth Sense, Halloween, and The Shining. Its mix of slapstick comedy and sharp genre references gave it a distinct place in movie history.

Release Date and Production Timeline

Production on Scary Movie 6 is scheduled to begin in October 2025 under Paramount’s new partnership with Miramax. The film will then hit theaters on June 12, 2026, giving audiences just under a year to anticipate Cindy and Brenda’s chaotic return.
