The Prelude to Battle

The story begins during the War of Chaos saga. The King of Chaos, personifying the void before creation, decides that existence was better before it began and aims to destroy all of existence. He defeats various pantheons of mythological gods, including Zeus himself. However, Hercules assembles a group of heroes, including Thor, the Silver Surfer, and even Galactus, to combat this threat. Together, they manage to defeat the King of Chaos, restoring the universe to its former state.

The Hulk’s Quest

Despite the universe’s restoration, the Hulk’s family still needs help. Many Hulks are injured, others are bizarrely shaped, and they all need a place to call home, as humans still see them as freaks. Bruce Banner turns to Olympus for assistance and begs Hercules for help. Unfortunately, Hercules, no longer the leader of the Olympians, has exhausted his powers in restoring the universe and cannot help. He informs Bruce that Zeus has regained the throne, prompting Bruce to confront the Lightning God.

Hercules warns Bruce of the dangers of irritating Zeus, who does not think like mortals and is far from immortal. Despite the risks, Bruce is determined. Hercules even assists by punching Bruce to trigger his transformation into the Hulk.

The Trials of Olympus

Hulk’s journey to Zeus is fraught with challenges. First, Poseidon, the Sea God, attacks him, sweeping the Hulk away in a powerful wave. Hulk cleverly remains quiet until Poseidon believes him dead and leaves. Next, Artemis, the Goddess of Hunting, shoots several arrows at Hulk, which do little harm. Hulk easily defends himself and escapes her attacks by leaping to another mountain.

While climbing, Boreas, the God of the North Wind, confronts him with freezing breath, but this fails to slow the Hulk down. Further on, Apollo, the Sun God, bombards him with fiery powers that hurt but do not halt his advance. Finally, at the gates of Olympus, Hulk faces Gorgons, Cyclops, Centaurs, and other creatures, defeating them all to enter Olympus.

The Clash of Titans

Upon entering Olympus, Hulk is greeted by Zeus and his wife Hera. Zeus, impressed by Hulk’s strength, passion, arrogance, and courage, unleashes a powerful beam that severely injures Hulk, causing him to pass out. Despite admiring Hulk’s determination, Zeus is unimpressed.

Hera warns the recovering Hulk to leave, but Hulk calls Zeus a coward, angering the god. Zeus showcases his incredible powers, but Hulk remains unafraid. He reminds Zeus of the role he and his family played in restoring him and demands a favor. Despite this, Zeus remembers Hulk’s past defiance during an incident involving the escaped Titans and decides to grant Hulk’s wish for a hand-to-hand combat.

The Battle

The battle begins with Hulk landing a super punch that sends Zeus crashing into a building. Zeus retaliates with a powerful ray, missing Hulk, who then provokes Zeus further. Zeus lands a super punch, hitting Hulk’s face and continuing the assault mercilessly, throwing Hulk to the foot of Mount Olympus. Undeterred, Hulk leaps back, only to be overwhelmed by Zeus, who rubs his face on the ground and punches him so powerfully it breaks Hulk’s rib cage, leaving his lungs compromised.

Hulk, vomiting blood and completely defeated, is urged by Hera to give up. However, Hulk persists, fighting for his family’s needs. Hera enters Hulk’s mind, understanding his sacrifice is for his family. She mocks Bruce Banner for sacrificing himself to the gods despite being an atheist. Zeus reappears, delivering another devastating blow that sends Hulk to the bottom of the mountain, where he faints.

The Aftermath

When Hulk wakes, he is chained to rocks by Hephaestus, who ensures Hulk will never free himself. Hulk faces severe punishment for two days until Hercules, accompanied by the Hulk family, rescues him. Zeus and Hera observe the rescue, with Hera criticizing Zeus’s tolerance and mercy. Zeus, however, asserts that Hulk now knows his power and will not forget his wrath for long months.

This battle was an indisputable victory for Zeus and a humiliating defeat for the Hulk. Hulk’s primary goal was to secure help for his family, not necessarily to win. Nonetheless, seeing Hulk completely defeated, with his healing factor nearly negated, is a rare and sobering sight.
