If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like when the Green Lantern Corps’ most reckless, loud-mouthed, and secretly big-hearted member runs completely off the leash — Tales of the Green Lantern Corps: Guy Gardner #1 is precisely that comic. Released as part of DC’s “All In” initiative, this issue is a self-contained adventure that serves as a character study wrapped in galactic chaos, alien ape crime rings, demonic conspiracies, and a genuine, touching moment of brotherhood between two of Earth’s finest Green Lanterns. Let’s break it all down, page by page, scene by scene.

The Source Wall Interrogation

The comic opens in spectacular fashion with Guy Gardner at the Source Wall — the great cosmic boundary at the edge of the universe, lined with the bodies of beings who dared to breach it and were fused into its structure for eternity. It’s one of the most iconic and foreboding locations in the DC Universe, and Guy is using it as… an interrogation room.

The Source Wall Interrogation – Tales of the Green Lantern Corps: Guy Gardner #1 – Hero-Tastic. Problematic.

Surrounded by the petrified corpses of countless dead aliens, Guy calmly introduces the location to a terrified blue-skinned alien criminal he has cornered: “Welcome to the Source Wall.” His follow-up line is equally chilling in its casual delivery: “Now start talking… or start dying.”

This immediately tells you everything about Guy Gardner. He didn’t take this alien to a detention facility. He didn’t call for backup. He brought a criminal to the literal edge of the universe, surrounded by cosmic death, and used sheer intimidation to extract a confession. It’s unorthodox. It’s probably against protocol. And it works.

Back on Oa — or aboard some Green Lantern vessel — we get a flashback framing of the earlier encounter. Guy appeared dramatically out of nowhere and confronted the alien with a grin: “Guy Gardner! Surprised to see me here?” The alien’s ship is disabled, his escape route cut off, and Guy makes it crystal clear he knows about the alien’s crimes. He threatens to leave the criminal stranded and alone in deep space — and the alien, terrified, starts confessing everything.

Space Crimes, Slaves, and Gambling Debts

The confessions tumble out: space cocaine hidden in the trunk, a hit ordered on someone called “Flarky the Spark,” and most disturbingly — the alien reveals that he sold a group of Drekonites (refugees from a planet whose star went nova) into slavery.

Space Crimes, Slaves, and Gambling Debts

Guy, casually lounging in a green construct while swiping through some kind of intergalactic device, zeroes in immediately: “Where are the refugees from that star that exploded in the Centauri system? I know you sold those Drekonites into slavery! And don’t. Lie. To. Me!”

The alien, terrified of being left among the dead bodies at the Source Wall, agrees to show Guy everything. And true to his word, Guy follows the lead — but the reason he even knew about the Drekonites is darkly hilarious. He was chasing this alien over a gambling debt. Five hundred credits. Guy stumbled onto a slavery operation because someone owed him money.

What follows is one of the most triumphant splash pages in the book. Guy Gardner stands atop a green construct podium before a massive crowd of freed Drekonite refugees — enslaved alien people, finally liberated — and shouts: “Yo, Drekonites — YOU’RE FREE!”

The crowd erupts. “YAY! HUZZAH! WAHOO!” It’s ridiculous and glorious and completely Guy Gardner.

But then — and this is where the character shines — Guy turns back to his debtor, K’arl, and calmly says: “And K’arl! Don’t think I forgot, dude! You owe me five hundred credits!” Poor K’arl, who was just freed from slavery, apologetically explains he’s a little short on funds. Guy, sighing, lets it go.

Then a young Drekonite child approaches, eyes wide and frightened, asking where they’ll go now that their entire planet has been destroyed. Guy’s response is gruff, but tender in its own way: “Don’t cry, little dude. Don’t. It really messes with me. Lemme charge up my ring as I take you to a planet where the adults are shorter than you — and if they get outta line, you can beat ’em up.”

It’s the Guy Gardner philosophy in a single moment: tough exterior, genuine heart, totally inappropriate joke delivery, and real action behind it.

Zardum’s Investigation Begins — Enter John Stewart

We then shift to the wider picture through Zardum’s narration. He’s been watching Guy’s behavior and has complaints. Specifically, Guy’s growing paranoia about the old Manhunter Androids — the robotic peacekeepers the Guardians created before the Green Lantern Corps, eventually decommissioned after a catastrophic failure. Guy is convinced they’re still active and dangerous. Zardum has looked into it and believes the old androids are “incapable of reactivating.”

Zardum’s Investigation Begins — Enter John Stewart – Tales of the Green Lantern Corps: Guy Gardner #1 – Hero-Tastic. Problematic.

When Zardum tries to summon Guy to discuss this, Guy is characteristically unimpressed: “No time for Internal Affairs, Zardum. Sick of you tryin’ to be my proctologist. I got one already — and he’s not allowed up my butt either!”

Instead of escalating with Kilowog (which would likely result in a full-scale brawl and collateral damage), Zardum makes a smarter call. He contacts John Stewart, the veteran Green Lantern of Sector 2814 and, as Zardum openly admits, the actual best Green Lantern. He notes that John recently duplicated himself via a multiverse journey — his copy was killed in battle against the Starbreaker Corps — and John has only recently returned to active duty from the Dark Sectors.

Zardum meets John aboard what appears to be an orbital vessel. John is sorting through a bowl of colorful candy (Zardum has a thing for sweets), and Zardum lays out the situation. He’s genuinely worried about Guy — not just as a conduct problem, but as a person who may be struggling alone and projecting fear. He tells John he’s “not asking Kilowog” because Kilowog would cause a war. He wants John, specifically, because “you have a delicate touch.”

John’s response is a flat, skeptical: “Ugh.” But he agrees.

A Messy Apartment in Baltimore

John Stewart heads to Earth — specifically to Baltimore, Guy Gardner’s home city — to find his fellow Lantern. Guy’s ring transponder is deactivated (this, we’re told, is an everyday occurrence for him), so John has to track him down the old-fashioned way.

A Messy Apartment in Baltimore

He lands at Guy’s apartment building and knocks on the door. When he gets no answer, he scans the building with his ring. Then — BOOM — a Manhunter android fires a laser blast through the wall, sending John crashing through it. He surveys the wreckage of Guy’s apartment: dirty, chaotic, a vintage arcade machine in the corner, a dying plant named “Bertha,” and — most disturbingly — an inert Manhunter android standing in Guy’s shower, behind the curtain.

John conducts a scan. The android is inert — completely non-functional. His ring begins a history lesson about the Manhunters, and John cuts it off: “Skip the history book. Cut to diagnostics.”

The ring confirms: Android is inert. But why is it in Guy’s shower?

John opens the fridge. The contents are… apocalyptic. Rotting food, mold, something unidentifiable. His ring offers hypotheses. John waves it off: “Rhetorical question, ring.” The ring says: “Very well.” John stares into the fridge. “I lack any hypothesis.” He quietly responds: “Same, ring. Same.”

It’s one of the funniest moments in the book — and quietly one of the saddest. A man who’s been living like this, alone, clearly struggling in ways he’d never admit.

Gorillas on the Moon

John figures the best way to find Guy is to follow the chaos he leaves behind. He takes off and starts scanning for scenes. He finds one very quickly — on what appears to be a nearby moon.

Guy is mid-brawl with a smuggler named Ted (a gorilla in a spacesuit, because of course it is) who has been smuggling old Manhunter android units. Guy has him in a chokehold, screaming: “I know you’ve been smuggling those old Manhunter units around, Ted! If that is your real name!” Ted’s “real name,” as it turns out, “is pain.”

Gorillas on the Moon – Tales of the Green Lantern Corps: Guy Gardner #1 – Hero-Tastic. Problematic.

The moon is also populated by Ted’s crew — a gang of space gorillas in yellow spacesuits who scatter when Guy gets the upper hand, shouting “OOK!” and “It’s the cops! RUN!” Guy constructs a massive green monster truck and drives it straight through them, laughing, while his captive gorilla hangs on for dear life shouting: “This man is bananas!”

John Stewart arrives just in time to intercept the fleeing apes and tries to get Guy to stop: “All right, everybody, let’s just chill for a hot minute. Guy, can we talk?”

Guy, fresh off his monster truck rampage, clocks John with deep suspicion. He’s been burned before. John supposedly went to the Dark Sectors, left a duplicate of himself, and that duplicate died. So when John appears in front of him, Guy’s paranoia kicks in: “My friend John died in this universe! Who are you?”

What follows is a spectacular no-powers fistfight across Earth’s desert landscape — both men shedding their rings or choosing not to use them, going at each other with bare fists. They crash through the upper atmosphere. They slam into cactus fields. They tumble through the desert, exchanging blows and insults. Guy bites John on the hand. John boots Guy with a construct hammer. They smash craters into the earth. It’s cathartic and ridiculous and, beneath the surface, deeply meaningful.

Guy finally admits why he’s fighting so hard: “I was scared you’d be out there alone… then I realized I was projecting my own fears. Ya know, bein’ here alone.”

John’s reply is quiet and direct: “I hear you, brother. We’re all we got.”

They call a truce. They shake hands. They hug. It’s the emotional core of the entire issue.

The Truth About the Manhunters

Both bruised and battered, Guy and John are summoned back to the Corps. At a formal briefing with Kilowog and other senior Lanterns, the truth finally comes out — and Guy Gardner was right all along.

A captured creature in a containment tube — a malevolent, telepathic life-form from a dark pocket universe, described as “almost as bad as a demon” — had been using the old, supposedly inert Manhunter androids as listening devices. Because Manhunters were built with extensive internal wiring, this creature had co-opted them as telepathic antennas, turning museum relics and decommissioned units scattered across the galaxy (including in the JLU Watchtower and various research labs) into surveillance bugs.

The Truth About the Manhunters

The reason the Corps missed it initially was that they were scanning for Manhunter activation codes and signals. There were none. Because the androids themselves weren’t reactivating — they were just being passively used as antennas. The proximity effect was also confirmed: “The more Manhunter androids you are close to, the more aggression you might feel…” — which retroactively explains why Guy seemed increasingly paranoid and volatile.

And as Kilowog proudly announces to the assembled Lanterns, the investigation would have gone nowhere “without John Stewart and Guy Gardner. They’re from Earth!” The assembled aliens’ reaction to that last detail is priceless.

Guy Gardner, the loose cannon with a gambling debt and a monster truck construct, had been right. The Manhunters were suspicious. He just couldn’t prove it — until now.

Barbecue, Brotherhood, and Baltimore

With the case closed, Guy is officially cleared of all Internal Affairs complaints. Zardum closes his log with characteristic snark, noting that Guy won’t ever thank him, and that “it’s been a learning journey for us all.”

Guy and John walk out together into the stars. Guy has one more trail to follow — he knows where some of the remaining Manhunter androids are, and he wants to bring in the Martian Manhunter to help investigate the telepathic angle. But right now? He and John are off the clock.

“Barbecue?” says Guy. “You know it,” says John.

They fly to Deubert’s BBQ Restaurant in Baltimore. The maître d’ tries to enforce the dress code. Both men, still in full Green Lantern uniforms, battered from fighting each other and space gorillas, stare him down. “Not today you don’t,” says John. Guy adds: “What he said.”

Inside, over ribs and red wine, they eat in easy companionship. Guy insists that “there’s only one way for men to truly know each other — and that’s to fight!” John points out that’s a Chuck Palahniuk quote. Guy insists his dad taught it to him first, and honestly, that tracks perfectly.

When they part ways outside on the Baltimore street, they clasp hands, then share a genuine hug. John flies off saying: “I’m gonna go sleep for a week. If the universe threatens to collapse on itself, give it to Kilowog.”

Zardum’s final narration wraps it beautifully: “It is true I killed two birds with one stone, but more than that, I knew Guy needed to know he was not alone.”

The Final Page: A Great Day Ahead

The last page is pure Guy Gardner. He wakes up late, showers, sprays deodorant on his uniform, waters Bertha (his plant), and walks out into the morning. The city is alive. And above him — attracted by all the chaos from the previous day’s adventure — a troupe of gorillas is swinging through the buildings.

Marvel’s “Red Band” initiative has promised a version of the Marvel Universe where the gloves come off and the consequences of vigilante justice are laid bare in visceral, uncompromising detail. In Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #1, writer Erica Schultz and artist Valentina Pinti deliver on that promise, plunging readers into a Hell’s Kitchen that feels more like a slaughterhouse than a neighborhood. This issue marks a significant shift for Elektra Natchios as she continues her tenure as the Woman Without Fear, grappling with the legacy of Matt Murdock while a familiar, macabre horror from the past prepares to claw its way back to the surface.

The Kitchen’s Bloody History

The story begins not with a punch, but with a meditation on the name “Hell’s Kitchen.” As Elektra stalks through the shadows, she reflects on the various legends surrounding the neighborhood’s moniker—some say it came from a group of Irish cops, others attribute it to a man named Dutch Fred. But for Elektra, the “Kitchen” is defined by the “cooks” currently poisoning her streets with drugs.

She notes the lack of training in the men she fights – Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #1 (2025) – Art, Blood, and the Return of a Nightmare

The action is immediate and brutal. Elektra descends upon a drug operation with a level of efficiency that borders on the terrifying. She notes the lack of training in the men she fights, describing them as “pathetic” and “almost cute” in their incompetence. However, the violence is anything but cute. This is the Red Band version of Daredevil, and the panels reflect that through the sheer impact of her strikes. She acknowledges that while she is “forbidden to kill” out of respect for Matthew (who is currently in jail), she has no qualms about making these criminals “wish they were dead”.

When the Stove Boils Over

The mission quickly takes a turn for the worse. During the skirmish, a fire breaks out in the makeshift lab. The scene shifts from a tactical takedown to a chaotic nightmare. Elektra watches with a mix of disgust and cold observation as the criminals prioritize saving their product over helping a colleague who is literally burning alive. “You can see their priorities,” she muses as a man screams for help while his partners scramble for drug bags.

“You can see their priorities,” she muses as a man screams for help while his partners scramble for drug bags.

The explosion that follows is massive, tearing through the deserted block. Elektra narrowly escapes, though not without sustaining injuries that remind her she lacks the superhuman healing factors of some of her peers. As she retreats to the rooftops, she considers the political landscape of the city. Mayor Luke Cage has repealed the anti-vigilante laws, but as Elektra knows all too well, “masks are not welcomed around town”. She views the destruction of the drug lab as a favor to the city’s developers—a “demolition” that was both effective and expensive.

The Agony of the Artist

The narrative then shifts its focus to the Conservatory of Visual Arts, introducing us to a student named Morgan. Morgan is a woman possessed by a deep, existential angst that permeates her work. Her latest piece is a bleak recreation of Goya-esque themes, meant to capture the feeling of a “lack of control over our own lives”. She describes humanity as “serfs in this modern world,” doing everything just to be “gobbled up” by something larger.

She describes humanity as “serfs in this modern world,” doing everything just to be “gobbled up” by something larger.

Her professor, Fabiano, is a caricature of academic pretension. He dismisses her work as the product of “true-crime podcasts” and “misery,” telling her she should focus on beauty because she is a “beautiful, young woman”. His condescension is palpable, but Morgan’s frustration is interrupted by something far more sinister than a bad critique. She is hearing a voice—a voice that claims to be her “mentor” and her “muse”.

A Masterpiece in the Making

This “Muse” is not a mere figment of Morgan’s imagination. Long-time readers will recognize him as the horrifying serial killer artist who once plagued Matt Murdock and Blindspot. Muse reveals himself to Morgan, whispering that her teacher “does not have your vision” and “certainly does not have your courage”. The interaction quickly turns lethal. In a sequence that highlights the “Explicit Content” warning on the cover, Muse encourages Morgan to take a stand.

The professor, Fabiano, becomes the first “supply” for this new project. – Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #1 (2025) – Art, Blood, and the Return of a Nightmare

The transition is chilling. Muse tells Morgan that “reinvention is the key to a long career” and that they need “more supplies” for a statement they are about to make. When Morgan asks what they are doing, Muse suggests they experiment with “mixed media”—a horrifying euphemism given his history of using human bodies as his canvas. The professor, Fabiano, becomes the first “supply” for this new project.

The Veil Between Worlds

Back at her base, Elektra stitches her wounds, her mind wandering to those she has lost or sent away for their own safety, like Alice. She reflects on the teachings of her former master, Stick, who always claimed that Hell’s Kitchen sat along a “ley line”. Stick believed the intersection of these lines made the area particularly sensitive to supernatural energy, a place where the “veil between Earth and Hell was thin”.

Elektra stitches her wounds

“You could smell what the Devil was cookin’ in Hell’s Kitchen,” Stick would say, warning that eventually, whatever was on the stove in Hell would “bubble up to the surface”. Elektra, who has literally been to Hell and back, can sense the truth in these words. Even without Matt’s heightened senses, she can focus on the “bits of Hell” that seep up through the cracks of the city.

Perspectives from the Pit

The final segment of the issue provides a haunting look into the mind of Muse as he resides in “Hell”—or at least his version of it. He describes Hell as a “true blessing” for his creativity, a place that has broadened his horizons and enhanced his understanding of the “Earthly plane”. From his vantage point, he watches the “Daredevil of Hell’s Kitchen,” though he finds Elektra’s version of justice lacking.

Muse harbors a deep resentment for vigilantes, particularly Blindspot (Sam Chung), whom he accuses of “cheating” by using otherworldly means to regain his sight. He feels a kinship with the “splintered souls” of artists who have been rejected by the establishment or crushed by the “schlock and commercialism” of late-stage capitalism. He sees himself as a provider of solace for these lost creatives, and Morgan is his chosen vessel.

The Truth of the Soul

The issue reaches its climax as Muse makes his pitch to Morgan. He explains that through a portion of her “living, creative soul,” he can reach the rest of her on the surface. He promises to help her reach her “true potential” as an artist, telling her that “Art is truth” and that she will show the world her truth with his help.

The final panels are a haunting call to action. Muse asks Morgan if she is ready to show him her art, to which the narrative concludes with a simple, chilling directive: “SHOW ME”.

Blade is back, and this time, Marvel is taking the gloves off. Under the “Red Band” label, this series promises explicit violence and a darker, grittier tone for the Daywalker. Following the traumatic events where he was possessed by Varnae (the first vampire) and nearly killed by his own daughter, Bloodline, Eric Brooks has exiled himself. Here is a page-by-page breakdown of the full story from Blade: Red Band #1, explaining exactly what happens in this blood-soaked debut.

The Setup

The issue opens with a recap of Blade’s origin: born Eric Brooks, a half-human/half-vampire hybrid. It highlights his recent trauma—his possession by Varnae, which forced his daughter to nearly kill him to save the world. Physically, he has recovered. Mentally and spiritually, he is broken. He seeks isolation to deal with the havoc his hands wrought while possessed.

The Exile

Location: Lupui Island, Southeast Asia.

Pages 3-5: We find Blade living in total isolation. His internal monologue reveals a man who wants to be “no one.” He lives as if he is already dead to gain freedom from the memories of what he did. He is ambushed by a vampire/creature in the jungle. Blade dispatches it effortlessly, calling it “mad” and noting, “You’re not the hunter, my friend.”

Location: Lupui Island, Southeast Asia. – The Full Story Breakdown of Blade: Red Band #1

The physical pain of the heat and the repetitive “clank” of the hammer helps him focus, drowning out his thoughts. He believes he deserves this pain. It is a ritual of self-flagellation—melting himself down and forging himself anew, just like the steel.

Most personal finance books feel like homework. They yell at you about compound interest, shame you for buying lattes, and demand you memorize complex investment strategies. Morgan Housel’s The Art of Spending Money is different. It’s less of a manual and more of a conversation about why we do what we do. Housel doesn’t care about your saving rate as much as he cares about your head game. He argues that money isn’t just math; it’s a tool for happiness, freedom, and identity. The central premise is simple but sticks with you: How you use your money matters way more than how much of it you actually have.

How the Book Flows

You don’t have to read this cover-to-cover to get the point. It’s structured as a series of short, punchy essays. You can open it to a random page, read for five minutes, and walk away with something to chew on.

There isn’t a plot, but there is a vibe. Housel uses history, psychology, and his own life to show that our spending is rarely rational—it’s emotional. We spend to soothe our fears, signal our status, or fill a void. He’s not telling you to stop; he’s just asking you to notice why you’re doing it.

It’s About Values, Not Spreadsheets

If there is one idea to take away from this book, it’s this:

Wealth is the gap between what you have and what you want.

You can make a million dollars a year, but if your desires grow just as fast as your paycheck, you’ll never actually feel rich. On the flip side, someone with a modest income who has their ego in check can feel incredibly wealthy.

Housel quietly takes apart the Instagram version of success. He points out that flashy cars and designer clothes are proof of spending, not proof of wealth. The truly wealthy are often invisible because they are “buying” things you can’t see: time, autonomy, and a lack of anxiety.

“Look at Me” vs. “This Helps Me”

We’ve all bought things just to impress people we don’t even like. Housel calls this out gently. He distinguishes between:

Status Spending: Buying things to signal success. The high wears off fast, and nobody cares about your possessions as much as you do.

Life-Enhancing Spending: Spending that actually solves a problem.

Buying a bigger house to impress the neighbors is a trap. But paying for a cleaner to save your sanity during a busy work week? Or taking a pay cut to live closer to the office? That’s money well spent. The book pushes you to prioritize experiences and conveniences that actually make your Tuesday morning better, rather than purchases that just look good on paper.

The Vibe: No Judgment Here

What makes Housel so readable is that he’s not a guru on a pedestal. He writes with a lot of empathy. He admits that money is terrifying and confusing. He knows our financial habits are tied to how we were raised and our deepest insecurities.

If you’re expecting a lecture on why you’re failing, you won’t find it here. It feels more like advice from a wise friend who wants you to stress less.

Who Is This For? (And Who Should Skip It)

If you are looking for:

Specific stock tips

Strict budgeting templates

“Get rich quick” hacks

…skip this book. You will be frustrated by the lack of hard numbers.

However, if you feel like you have “enough” money but still feel anxious, or if you’re tired of the lifestyle creep where every raise disappears into new bills, this book is fantastic. It’s for the person who wants to stop chasing a number and start building a life.

The Bottom Line

The Art of Spending Money asks you to pause before you tap your card and ask, “Is this actually going to make my life better, or am I just scratching an itch?”

It won’t make you a millionaire overnight. But it might make you feel like one a lot sooner, simply by helping you realize you already have enough.

Toad, whose real name is Mortimer Toynbee, is one of Marvel Comics’ most complex and underestimated characters. Since his debut in 1964, this mutant has evolved from a comedic lackey into a fully realized character with remarkable abilities and a surprisingly deep emotional arc.

Origin and Early Life

Born in York, England, Mortimer Toynbee was abandoned by his parents at an early age. His childhood was marked by rejection and isolation, which shaped his desperate need for acceptance and belonging. The cruelty he endured made him extremely vulnerable to anyone who showed him even the smallest amount of kindness or respect, setting up a lifelong pattern of servile devotion.

Mortimer’s mutation and deformation were not entirely natural. He was experimented on as part of projects connected to mutant research, which warped his body and left him with an unstable genetic structure. This contributed to his hunched posture, exaggerated facial features, and frog‑like movements that would define his “Toad” persona for years.

Debut in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants

Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, Toad first appeared in The X-Men #4 (March 1964) as a member of Magneto’s original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Alongside Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Mastermind, Toad entered the Marvel Universe not as a mastermind or even a proper partner, but as the team’s pathetic underling.

Toad idolized Magneto, desperately believing that Magneto valued and cared for him. In reality, Magneto largely treated him as expendable—a tool, a shield, and an errand boy. Toad also developed an unrequited crush on Scarlet Witch, who was repulsed by his appearance, manners, and constant fawning. Her brother Quicksilver openly mocked and bullied him, reinforcing Mortimer’s feelings of worthlessness.

In these early years, Toad was mostly portrayed as comic relief: sniveling, cringing, and constantly seeking approval from people who never truly respected him.

Powers and Abilities

Physical Mutations

Toad’s primary mutant ability is superhuman leaping. His legs possess exceptional strength, allowing him to jump great distances and heights. His spine and skeletal structure are unusually flexible, enabling him to remain in a crouched, frog‑like posture without discomfort. This agility makes him surprisingly hard to hit in combat and allows him to move unpredictably in battle.

Secondary Mutations and Enhancements

For a long time, Toad was viewed as a relatively weak mutant with limited usefulness. However, later stories revealed that his mutation had been suppressed and destabilized by early experimentation. Once his genetic structure was corrected and his full mutant potential unlocked, his powers expanded dramatically.

Notable abilities include:

Prehensile Tongue
Toad can extend his tongue to significant lengths (often depicted up to around 25 feet). His tongue is incredibly strong and durable, capable of ensnaring and choking opponents, grabbing weapons, or manipulating objects at a distance. Some stories even show him using it lethally.

Wall-Crawling
He can stick to walls and ceilings, climbing and clinging to almost any surface. This ability, combined with his leaping, gives him spider‑like mobility in enclosed spaces and on the battlefield.

Adhesive and Chemical Secretions
Toad can secrete a sticky, resin-like substance from his skin or spit it at enemies. This substance can immobilize or slow opponents. In some versions, he also generates chemical compounds that affect the nervous system, causing paralysis or disorientation.
At times, his tongue and skin have been shown to exude psychoactive or pheromone-like chemicals, allowing him limited influence over the minds and emotions of others.

Enhanced Durability and Stamina
His physiology grants him higher‑than‑normal durability, resilience to falls (thanks to his leaping nature), and the stamina to maintain his crouched posture or rapid movements for extended periods.

Amphibian Affinity
Various stories hint at an affinity or limited communication with amphibian life, fitting his overall theme, though this is not always a central focus of his powers.

Breath Projection
Some depictions include Toad expelling powerful gusts of air from his lungs, enough to knock people off balance.

Technological Skill and Intelligence

Over time, Toad has been portrayed as much more intelligent than his early clownish role suggested. Exposure to advanced technology through Magneto and other villains allowed him to develop real technical expertise. He has built weapons, traps, and gadgets, and at times even led his own villain team, orchestrating complex schemes.

From Pathetic Lackey to Dangerous Villain

For many years, Toad remained a perpetual henchman, cycling through different incarnations of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and other villain groups. Eventually, he stepped up to lead his own Brotherhood, recruiting villains such as Blob and Pyro. This version of the Brotherhood leaned less on mutant “midnight-a-story-of-hope-justice-and-freedom-by-brittany-k-barnett/”>freedom fighting” and more on outright criminal activity.

Toad’s upgraded powers and sharpened mind made him a much more dangerous opponent for the X-Men. Moments like his participation in underground fighting tournaments or terrorist operations showcased a Toad who was no longer harmless comic relief but a mutant capable of real brutality.

The Krakoan Era and Attempt at Redemption

The modern X-Men era introduced Krakoa, a living island nation that serves as a sovereign mutant homeland. Toad, like many long‑time mutant villains, was granted amnesty and a place within this new society, provided he followed Krakoan laws.

On Krakoa, Toad took on low‑status work, including custodial tasks at the Jean Grey School and later at the island itself. Yet this seemingly humiliating role marked a shift: he was no longer just being used and mocked. He had a community, however imperfect, and a place that acknowledged his identity as a mutant citizen, not just as a henchman.

Toad also became involved in covert missions for Krakoa. He teamed up at various points with characters like Mystique and Sabretooth on black‑ops style assignments against human organizations threatening mutantkind. These stories highlighted that, when given purpose and at least some measure of respect, Toad could fight effectively and contribute meaningfully.

Tragedy and Death

In recent comics, Toad’s story took a dark and tragic turn. During conflicts beneath Krakoa, particularly during the “Sabretooth War” storyline, Toad found himself aligned with mutant exiles opposing Sabretooth and his brutal agenda.

In a climactic confrontation, Toad showed real courage when he used his prehensile tongue to seize a depowering weapon from Sabretooth. This act—an attempt to save others and turn the tide of battle—became his final stand. Sabretooth retaliated with horrifying violence, maiming and ultimately killing Toad.

Because of political and mystical changes affecting the Resurrection Protocols on Krakoa at that time, Toad no longer had guaranteed access to mutant resurrection. His death, unlike so many in X-Men history, appears to be final, giving a bitterly permanent end to a character who had spent his whole life trying to matter.

Who is Toad In Marvel Comics

Toad in Other Media

Toad’s visibility in popular culture greatly increased through film and television.

Live-Action Films

In the 2000 movie X-Men, he is portrayed by Ray Park. This version of the character is far more acrobatic and physically imposing than his early comic counterpart. The film emphasizes:

Long, powerful prehensile tongue

Wall-crawling and acrobatics

Nasty, animalistic fighting style

While he still serves as a henchman to Magneto, this Toad helped cement a more dangerous image of the character in the public consciousness.

A younger version of Toad appears briefly in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), again emphasizing his mutant abilities and militaristic involvement but with a slightly different look and background.

Animation

In X-Men: Evolution, Toad is reimagined as a teenager named Todd Tolansky. He is a troublemaker, often hanging around with the Brotherhood’s younger members. This version plays up his gross habits, constant snacking, and slacker personality, but also gives him more screen time and development.

Despite his obnoxious behavior, the series finale flash-forward reveals that Todd and the rest of the Brotherhood eventually reform and become government‑backed heroes working with S.H.I.E.L.D. This animated arc foreshadows the redemption possibilities that the comics would later explore more seriously.

Toad has also appeared in other Marvel animated series and video games, usually as a mid‑level boss or supporting villain with high mobility and disruptive attacks based on his tongue, jumps, and slime.

Ayana Gray’s I, Medusa is a bold retelling that takes a figure long relegated to the margins of myth and gives her interiority, agency, and a moral complexity the original stories rarely bothered to imagine. This is not merely a re-run of ancient episodes; it’s a deliberate remolding of the Medusa we think we know into a character whose choices — and the costs of those choices — make us reckon with what it means to be branded a monster. The novel balances elegiac moments with brutal clarity as it charts one woman’s transformation from wronged mortal to feared legend.

Plot overview — what happens (spoiler-aware)

At its heart, I, Medusa places readers in Medusa’s point of view and traces the arc that turns her life into the story later generations will whisper about. The book opens in a world shaped by gods and human ambition, where Medusa is positioned among other women whose bonds and betrayals shape much of what follows. As she navigates relationships with friends, lovers, and powerholders — both divine and mortal — we watch the cumulative weight of exploitation, grief, and survival tilt her toward the monstrous image history preserves.

The narrative pays close attention to the sequence of events that result in Medusa’s curse and eventual renown: personal betrayals, the manipulation of the gods, and an escalating series of choices that end with Medusa fully embracing the terrifying power that will define her. Plot points include emotional manipulation, coercion, and complicated relationships of trust and pain, culminating in a climactic act that reorients the mythic record. The story foregrounds cause and consequence rather than random mythic happenstance.

Voice, structure, and pacing

Gray writes with a deliberate lyricism that leans into the mythic while keeping the narrative intimate. The book avoids an overly ornate antique voice; instead, Gray opts for modern clarity with poetic touches that underscore Medusa’s interior world. The pacing is steady, giving space to quieter scenes of sisterhood and grief as well as to the mounting tension that leads to violent transformation. Many readers have noted that Gray’s handling of tone — combining tenderness and brutality — is one of the novel’s major strengths, drawing readers into a character who is both sympathetic and dangerous.

Themes and what the retelling does differently

Several themes thread through Gray’s retelling: the weaponization of female bodies, the destructive afterlives of betrayal, and the ways communal stories erase nuance in favor of simple moral labels. Rather than portraying Medusa as an irredeemable monster or an unalloyed victim, Gray presents a protagonist whose anger is understandable, whose moral calculus is complicated, and whose actions are sometimes righteous and sometimes terrifying.

The book also centers relationships between women — friendships, mentorships, rivalries — treating them as meaningful forces in Medusa’s life and choices. Gray interrogates how both humans and gods manipulate power, showing how mythology itself becomes an instrument of control. Through these thematic choices, the novel becomes a conversation about culpability, vengeance, and survival rather than a straightforward moral fable.

Character work — Medusa and those around her

Medusa emerges as a fully realized protagonist: not only a symbol but a person with desires, failures, and defenses. Gray gives the supporting cast enough substance to make Medusa’s bonds feel emotionally credible. Lovers, friends, and rivals shape her sense of self and her descent into the identity history assigns to her. Some readers may find certain supporting relationships underexplored or the pacing uneven in those secondary arcs, but the emotional core of Medusa’s attachments remains one of the novel’s strongest elements.

The tension between empathy for Medusa and acknowledgment of the harm she causes is handled with care. Gray rarely offers easy absolution; instead, she leans into the discomfort of a heroine who is both harmed and capable of harm.

Strengths and possible weaknesses

Strengths:

A powerful and resonant reimagining of a familiar myth with a refreshed moral complexity.

Prose that balances accessibility and lyrical emotion.

A strong emotional through-line tracing the impact of trauma, anger, and self-determination.

Possible weaknesses:

Readers seeking a strictly traditional or historically faithful retelling may find the modern tone unexpected.

A few side relationships and arcs may feel less polished than Medusa’s central narrative.

Who should pick up this book

Readers who enjoy mythological retellings that challenge conventional interpretations will likely connect with I, Medusa. Those who appreciate character-driven stories with emotional intensity, morally complex protagonists, and explorations of power dynamics will find the novel compelling.

Because the book includes themes of coercion and emotional manipulation, readers sensitive to such topics should be aware—they are essential to the plot and handled with intentionality. Fans of contemporary myth reimaginings that prioritize emotional truth over strict adherence to ancient texts will feel right at home with Gray’s approach.

Final verdict

I, Medusa is a vivid, emotionally charged reclamation of a mythic figure who has long been flattened by legend. Gray does not simply invert the myth or assign easy blame; instead, she places the reader inside the lived experience of a woman pushed to the edge and reshaped by forces beyond her control. The result is a novel that is fierce, haunting, and reflective — a story about pain, power, and the making of a legend.

The story of Jason and the Argonauts stands as one of Greek mythology’s most thrilling epics—a tale of courage, betrayal, divine intervention, and the relentless pursuit of glory. It weaves together the adventures of heroes from across ancient Greece into one legendary journey that tested the boundaries of mortal endurance and divine favor. At its center lies Jason, a young man burdened with destiny and driven by the quest to reclaim his rightful throne.

The Rise of Jason: A Prince in Exile

In Thessaly, chaos reigned after King Pelias seized the throne from Jason’s grandfather. The act of usurpation cast a shadow over the kingdom, forcing young Jason into exile. But as he grew, stories of his lineage and courage spread across Greece. The day finally came when the rightful heir returned home, ready to challenge his uncle for the throne.

Pelias, ever cunning and fearful of prophecy, dared not kill Jason outright. Instead, he offered him a deadly bargain: to cross the treacherous seas and retrieve the Golden Fleece from distant Colchis. Only then, Pelias promised, would Jason reclaim his crown. It was an impossible task—but one worthy of a true hero.

The Calling of Heroes: Assembling the Argonauts

Moved by Jason’s righteous mission, the gods of Olympus scattered his plea across the winds of Greece. The call reached the ears of heroes, demigods, and champions—a heroic roster unmatched in mythic tradition.

Among them came:

Hercules, the mightiest of men, blessed with unmatched strength and a heart to match.

Orpheus, the poet-musician whose melodies could charm beasts and soothe storms.

Castor and Pollux, the twin tricksters born from the mysterious egg of Leda.

Zetes and Calais, the Boreads, sons of the North Wind, swift as gusts themselves.

Together with Jason and a number of sailors, soothsayers, and demi-gods, these figures forged the legendary crew of the Argo, their ship built with timber blessed by Athena herself. Thus began their great odyssey.

The Island of Lemnos: A Curse and a Temptation

Their first destination was the mysterious island of Lemnos, shrouded in sorrow. Its women, in a fit of rage and jealousy, had slain all the men of the island. As punishment, Aphrodite cursed them with a repulsive stench, leaving them isolated and desperate.

Despite the curse, Jason and his men found themselves seduced by beauty and loneliness. The queen of Lemnos bore Jason twins, and other Argonauts found themselves entangled in fleeting romances. Days turned to weeks as the crew lost sight of their mission—until Hercules, steadfast and disciplined, reminded them that heroes should not tarry in lust while destiny called them forward.

With heavy hearts, they left Lemnos behind, chasing the shining promise of the Golden Fleece once more.

The Battle of the Doliones and the Six-Armed Giants

Their next stop took them to Mount of Bears, home to the peaceful Doliones tribe. The Argonauts were welcomed as friends, feasting in joy under starry skies. Yet peace shattered when monstrous six-armed giants—creatures of ancient fury—descended from the mountains to crush the newcomers.

Hercules led the defense, standing alone at the front, his club crushing stone and bone alike. His comrades rallied, and together they annihilated the giants. Victorious, they sailed once more with hearts lightened by glory.

But fate had a cruel twist awaiting them.

A violent storm swept the ship back to the very same shore. Under the veil of darkness, neither side recognized the other. Believing the Argonauts invaders, the Doliones fought to the death. By dawn, tragedy revealed itself: Jason’s crew had slaughtered their former hosts.

Grief pierced the morale of the heroes, and Jason was crushed by guilt. From that moment, he vowed to focus only on his mission, blind to all distraction—even when it would cost him dearly.

The Loss of Hercules and the Turning Tide

When Hercules’ young squire was stolen by a water nymph, the mighty hero plunged into the depths searching for him. But Jason, obsessed with progress, sailed on—never realizing that he had left behind the strongest ally in his company. Hercules vanished from the quest, leaving the Argonauts weaker, their unity fraying.

Still, they pressed onward. The gods had not finished testing them.

The Prophet Phineas and the Curse of the Harpies

On a desolate shore, the Argonauts discovered a frail, blind old man tormented by winged demons. This was Phineas, a seer cursed by Zeus for divulging divine secrets. Whenever he tried to eat, monstrous Harpies would swoop down to snatch his food, leaving him starved and humiliated.

Moved by his plight, the Boreads, sons of the North Wind, leapt into the air and chased the Harpies across the skies. Bound by the will of the gods, they could not slay the creatures—but their relentless pursuit drove the beasts away long enough to ease Phineas’ torment.

In gratitude, Phineas shared his gift of prophecy. He told the Argonauts of the trials yet to come—chief among them, the Symplegades: two colossal cliffs that smashed together whenever ships tried to pass between them. Only cunning and divine timing could ensure their survival.

Trials of Sea, Sky, and Soul

Before confronting the Symplegades, the Argonauts had to endure a perilous route through lands and waters few dared imagine. They rowed past the Island of the Amazons, fierce warrior women who hunted strangers; they skirted the mouth of Hades, where the very air shimmered with death; and they witnessed skies painted in strange and terrible colors, filled with omens of madness.

Each trial chipped away at their spirits. Some sailors grew paranoid, fearing that divine favor had abandoned them. Others began to question Jason’s leadership. Yet through storms and despair, they pressed forward, bound by shared destiny.

The Passage of the Symplegades: Faith Over Fear

At last, the crew reached the Clashing Rocks—the dreaded Symplegades. They watched in horror as the waves thundered between the jagged cliffs, smashing driftwood and carcasses to splinters. Many argued they should turn back.

But Phineas’ guidance still echoed in their minds: “Send forth the dove first.”

Jason did exactly that. He released a white dove, watching as it darted through the narrow gap. The rocks clashed but the bird emerged with only its tail feathers singed. That was their signal.

Jason shouted for full speed. The oarsmen pulled with every ounce of strength, muscles burning, hearts pounding. The Argo slipped through the deadly passage just as the cliffs crashed together behind them. The mast quivered, but the ship held true.

For the first time, the Argonauts cried tears of relief instead of grief. They had passed the impossible.

The Shores of Colchis: Nearing Destiny

Emerging from the Symplegades, the sea stretched calm and golden before them. In the distance shimmered Colchis, land of the Golden Fleece. The fleece hung upon an oak tree under the watchful eyes of King Aeetes and his fearful guardians. At last, the journey seemed near its end—yet Jason sensed a foreboding weight in his heart.

Celebrations broke out aboard the Argo, but Jason remained quiet. He knew that this final trial would not be won through brute strength or glory. It would demand cunning, sacrifice, and perhaps, a darkness he was not ready to embrace.

Jason and the Argonauts: The Epic Voyage for the Golden Fleece

Foreshadowing the Final Trial

Though the quest for the Fleece would soon involve sorcery, betrayal, and the enchantress Medea, the voyage up to this point had already transformed Jason. He had gained respect, endured torment, and lost brothers. Each trial stripped away part of his innocence, shaping him into a leader who understood the price of heroism.

The Fleece gleamed in his imagination—not merely as a symbol of kingship, but as the embodiment of redemption. Yet Jason could not guess that his final act of glory would exact a cost more terrible than anything the seas or gods had demanded before.

The Legacy of the Argonauts

The voyage of the Argonauts transcends adventure—it embodies the eternal struggle of mortal ambition against divine fate. Each hero aboard the Argo represented an aspect of humanity: strength, artistry, wisdom, faith, and folly. Their unity in purpose, despite their failures, carved their legend into the bedrock of myth.

Jason’s tale reminds us that heroism is not the absence of fear or doubt, but the relentless will to pursue the impossible, even when the gods themselves stand in judgment. From Lemnos to the Symplegades, from love to loss, every wave carried a lesson that echoed across ages.

The legend of Jason and the Argonauts is not just a myth—it is humanity’s oldest voyage, eternally setting sail toward the shining promise of destiny.

CG Drews’s Hazelthorn doesn’t knock politely — it curls in like a creeping vine and refuses to be ignored. Part gothic horror, part toxic romance, and part identity search, the book blends the soft ache of yearning with the sharp sting of fear. Readers walk into Hazelthorn expecting a haunted house. What they get is a living threat — a garden that watches, reacts, and remembers. It’s a story that won’t settle neatly into one box, and that refusal is exactly what gives it teeth.

Plot: A Garden With a Grudge

Evander has grown up in Hazelthorn estate, a place wrapped in rules:

Never leave the estate.
Never enter the gardens.
Never be alone with Laurie.

Laurie, the grandson of the estate’s late master, is equal parts danger and magnetism — a walking contradiction Evander can’t look away from, no matter how badly things have gone between them. The house is infected by its own greenery — vines writhing behind walls, pollen that seems to whisper.

Evander’s memories hold as many secrets as the Hazelthorn soil. Bit by bit, he learns the truth about his past, the estate’s monstrous legacy, and why the plants behave like predators. The story shifts from eerie domestic suspense to sharp, shocking horror — the kind that sinks roots into the body as well as the brain.

There’s obsession. There’s longing. There’s violence. And beneath it all, a desperate search for autonomy in a place where control is a tradition.

Writing Style: Sharp Cuts & Poisoned Petals

Drews’s prose is both efficient and indulgent — brisk in dialogue, richly atmospheric in horror. Quick sentences deliver punches. But when the novel turns toward the monstrous gardens, readers are treated to lush botanical terror: vines like veins, petals like open wounds, roots that behave like restraints.

Every sensory detail matters — the texture of moss on skin, the metallic taste of fear, the scent of something blooming that shouldn’t. The writing plays with contrast: beauty and revulsion blooming side-by-side.

It’s stylish without slowing down. Elegant without losing bite.

Characters: Hurt People, Hungry Hearts

Evander is not the typical brave YA hero. He’s vulnerable and scarred — physically, emotionally, psychologically. Survival has shaped him more than choice. Watching him fight to reclaim his narrative becomes a core emotional hook.

Laurie is both toxic temptation and tragic figure — unsettling yet impossible to dismiss. Their connection is the book’s loudest heartbeat. Attraction here is not soft, healthy swooning — it’s sharp, risky, and forged under threat. Drews refuses to sanitize the relationship into something cute. It’s fraught, messy, and believable.

Secondary characters — especially the adults policing the estate — act like ghosts in their own home. Their silence is as frightening as any monster.

Even the garden is a character. It reacts. It punishes. It seduces. It hungers.

Atmosphere & Horror: Where Romance Meets the Rot

Hazelthorn isn’t a jump-scare horror novel — it unnerves you slowly, tenderly. Its terror grows out of intimacy: touch that turns threatening, trust that turns poisonous.

Body horror is the book’s boldest card — skin and roots almost swapping roles. The fear comes from vulnerability: the idea that your body can betray you as quickly as a loved one can.

The setting is claustrophobic — a gorgeous prison filled with living traps. Readers who love atmospheric creepiness will find plenty to savor here.

But this darkness isn’t sensational. It’s thematic. It asks painful questions:

How much of you belongs to others?
What does love cost
when control is part of the deal?

Pacing & Structure: Swift & Suffocating

Hazelthorn is compact — no wandering subplots, no filler chapters. That leanness is a strength as tension keeps ratcheting upward. There’s rarely a moment to breathe; the story pushes forward with purpose.

Some readers may crave a longer runway at the end — the final revelations explode fast, and the aftermath is not over-explained. But the lingering ambiguity suits a story built on secrets that refuse to die neatly.

When a book unnerves you, should the ending feel tidy? Hazelthorn doesn’t think so.

Themes: Control, Trauma & the Right To Be Free

At its core, Hazelthorn is about ownership — of place, of memory, of your own body. Inheritance and trauma are threads knotted into every page. Evander’s journey is not just survival — it’s reclamation.

Romance here explores the knife-edge between desire and danger — when affection becomes obsession, when protection becomes possession.

The representation also stands out: queerness is baked into the story’s bones, treated with nuance rather than spotlighted as a marketing bullet point.

Who Will Love This Book

Readers who want queer-centered gothic fiction
Fans of botanical horror and living-environment settings
Anyone who wants romance that bruises instead of flatters
Readers drawn to psychological tension and character pain

Who Might Struggle

Those uncomfortable with body horror
Readers who need clean moral binaries
Fans of happy-ever-afters wrapped in bows

This is not a gentle story — and that’s the point.

Final Verdict

Hazelthorn is sharp, seductive storytelling. It wraps romance in thorns and dares you to hold on anyway. Some elements will divide readers — especially the heavier body horror and the ending that leaves scars — but Drews embraces risk where many YA romances reach for comfort.

It’s a book that feeds on fear and blooms from longing, and it refuses to apologize for either. Love it or resist it, Hazelthorn will leave its mark.

This garden bites back — and it’s hard not to want more.

Qualcomm has officially stepped into the high-stakes world of (artificial intelligence) AI data centers, unveiling its new line of AI accelerator chips—the AI200 and AI250—and accompanying rack-scale servers. The move signals a major push by the company to challenge the dominance of Nvidia and AMD, whose chips currently power most AI-driven computing infrastructure worldwide. Following the announcement, Qualcomm’s shares surged by more than 15%, underscoring the excitement among investors as the company diversifies beyond its hallmark mobile and wireless semiconductor business.

From Mobile Processors to AI Powerhouses

Historically recognized for smartphone chipsets, Qualcomm is retooling its expertise for the data center era. Both the AI200, scheduled for release in 2026, and the AI250, expected in 2027, draw heavily from the company’s proprietary Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU) technology—a key component in its mobile processors. A third-generation chip is already in the pipeline for 2028, with Qualcomm planning to maintain an annual release cadence.

Each AI chip can be deployed as part of a full, liquid-cooled server rack or sold as standalone hardware. The company’s full rack systems can house multiple accelerators working together, comparable to Nvidia’s massive GPU clusters that power advanced AI models like OpenAI’s GPT. Qualcomm’s design allows for scalable deployment and flexibility; customers can purchase the full stack, select components, or integrate Qualcomm chips into their own custom-built systems.

Focus on Inference Efficiency and Cost Reduction

Qualcomm’s AI200 and AI250 are optimized for inference—the process of running AI models—rather than training them. This strategic focus caters to cloud providers seeking efficient, cost-effective hardware for real-world AI tasks. The company claims its new systems offer advantages in both power consumption and total cost of ownership, crucial factors for data centers grappling with spiraling energy costs.

The AI200 rack reportedly operates using around 160 kilowatts of power—similar to high-end Nvidia GPU setups—but promises better energy efficiency. The Company also highlighted innovative memory handling as a differentiator, with its AI cards supporting up to 768 gigabytes of memory. The AI250 will raise the bar further, featuring ten times the memory bandwidth of the AI200 to meet the growing demand for faster AI model execution.

Durga Malladi, Qualcomm’s general manager for data center and edge solutions, noted that the company’s modular design approach means even competitors like Nvidia and AMD could become customers for specific components, such as Qualcomm CPUs. “We aim to put our customers in a position where they can take the whole system or mix and match as they please,” Malladi explained.

Competing in a Trillion-Dollar Market

The AI data center market represents one of the fastest-growing sectors in technology, with an estimated $6.7 trillion in global data center investments projected by 2030. Currently, Nvidia controls more than 90% of the AI semiconductor market, driven largely by the explosive demand for generative AI tools. AMD has emerged as Nvidia’s main challenger, recently striking deals with companies like OpenAI to supply GPUs.

Qualcomm’s entry adds a formidable new player to the mix. Its AI200 and AI250 servers aim to court hyperscalers such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft—companies that are both major AI hardware consumers and developers of their own chips. The competition will be steep, but Qualcomm believes its track record in chip innovation and efficiency can carve out a profitable niche.

Strategic Shift and Future Outlook

This new venture also marks a strategic transformation for Qualcomm, as it looks to reduce dependence on its smartphone business, which accounted for roughly $6.3 billion of its $10.4 billion third-quarter revenue. Entering the AI infrastructure segment could open fresh revenue channels and reduce volatility tied to mobile markets.

Qualcomm’s re-entry into the data center space comes after an earlier, short-lived attempt in 2017 with its Centriq platform, which struggled against Intel and AMD at the time. The company has since refined its approach with products like the AI 100 Ultra card and partnerships such as its collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s Humain, which is set to deploy up to 200 megawatts worth of Qualcomm’s AI inferencing systems.

If Qualcomm delivers on its performance and efficiency claims, the AI200 and AI250 could help redefine the balance of power in an industry currently centered on Nvidia and AMD. For now, the world’s major cloud providers and AI developers will be watching closely as the company’s data center ambitions unfold.
